Genetic Overview (GO) Analysis

A powerful analysis that provides insights on the diversity and level of inbreeding between animals of a population. When combined with a strain ID analysis - it enables the differentiation between animals used in different production systems and markets. For example, Tilapia (the Nile vs Mozambique), Largemouth Bass (Florida vs Northern).

Parentage Assignment

Parentage assignment matches parents with their offspring using a specific set of markers. It is done by marker exclusion and/or likelihood methods.

Marker Assisted Selection

Marker assisted selection uses information from a few markers and knowledge of favourable vs unfavorable alleles to select animals for the next generation.

Identification of Genetic Sex

Sex determination using genetic markers allows for a simple and non-invasive way of determing sex at an early age, before sexual maturation.

Species / Strain / Population identification

Species or strain ID using genetic markers enables the differentiation of closely related strains or species that only differ, that otherwise would be difficult to determine phenotypically.

Traceability management

Traceability via DNA analysis is the ability to maintain the identification of the animal and its origin.

GWAS

Genome Wide Association Studies involve scanning markers across the genomes to find genetic variations associated with a particular trait of interest. Once new genetic associations are identified, researchers can use the information to develop better strategies to detect, treat and prevent the disease, for example.

Genomic selection

Genomic selection (GS) is a technique used to select animals early on in the production system using information from hundreds or thousands of markers associated with a specific trait. This can be performed in or outside a traditional genetic evaluation, although higher accuracy of selection is seen when combined with a traditional genetic evaluation.

Marker discovery

It is the process of identifying markers across the genome that influence the variation seen in a trait of interest. New markers can be added to genotyping panels to increase the amount of information explained in a trait.

Axiom Multispecies Tambaqui and Pacu Genotyping

Axiom™ Multispecies Tambaqui and Pacu Genotyping

The Axiom Multispecies Tambaqui and Pacu Genotyping Array was designed in collaboration with Dr. Diogo Teruo Hashimoto from São Paulo State University (UNESP, CAUNESP, Jaboticabal - Brazil) and Dr. José Manuel Yáñez from University of Chile. The array contains 29,575 SNPs from tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) and 29,612 SNPs from pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus). Moreover, 3000 polymorphic SNPs were validated for a closely related serrasalmid species, pirapitinga (Piaractus brachypomus), by conversion rate using the SNP markers of tambaqui and pacu as a valuable resource for the application to selective breeding programs and conservation/population studies. This array is also available in mini-96 format (Cat. No. 551219).

Axiom Salmon Genotyping Array

Axiom™ Salmon Genotyping Array

Axiom Salmon Genotyping Array for Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was designed under the Affymetrix Expert Design Program in collaboration with The Roslin Institute (University of Edinburgh), Edinburgh Genomics, Landcatch Natural Selection Ltd., University of Stirling, and University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom.

The array interrogates more than 130,000 polymorphic variants that were discovered through three different sequencing methodologies. Axiom Salmon Genotyping Array provides extensive information on polymorphisms across the salmon genome.

Axiom™ Multispecies Shrimp and Tilapia Genotyping Array

The Axiom™ Multispecies Shrimp and Tilapia Genotyping Array (Axiom TilShrv1) was designed in collaboration with João Campos and Jose Fernando Garcia from Trigene, Brazil, with financial support from PIPE-FAPESP. The array contains 60,886 SNPs from tilapia and 6,453 SNPs from shrimp. It is also available in mini-96 format.

Axiom Trout Genotyping Array

Axiom™ Trout Genotyping Array

The Axiom™ Trout Genotyping Array (384HT format) was designed under the Affymetrix Expert Design Program in collaboration with the National Center for Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture, USDA-ARS, USA, and AquaGen, Trondheim, Norway. The array includes 57,501 markers and is available in both 96 format and 384 format.

Axiom Coral-Algae Genotyping array

Axiom™ Coral-Algae Genotyping Array

The Axiom™ Coral-Algae Genotyping array (Axiom AcropSNP) was designed in collaboration with Dr. Iliana Baums and the Baums laboratory at Pennsylvania State University. The array was designed to co-analyze the coral host (Acropora) and algal symbionts (Symbiodiniaceae) based on the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) loci selected to resolve multi-locus genotypes of host (genets) and symbionts (strains). SNPs were also selected to distinguish host populations and to determine ancestry of the coral hybrids in Caribbean acroporids. A subset of SNP loci can be used to genotype Pacific acroporids.

The array consists of 53,589 SNPs from the coral host and 4,021 SNPs from algal symbionts. This array is also available in 384HT format.

Infinium ShrimpLD-24 v1.0 BeadChip

The Infinium ShrimpLD-24 v1.0 BeadChip enables genomic selection and evaluation for family identification within Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), to advance aquaculture breeding programs. This microarray contains over 6400 genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), validated using family brood stock from multiple existing breeding programs. The array offers:

excellent call rates and accuracy;
> 99% mean call rate and > 99.9% reproducibility;
high-value content with comprehensive coverage;
evenly distributed polymorphic SNPs with 1 cM mean spacing.
